mp3 | roadside graves | downbound train | bruce springsteen rework

recently, roadside graves was interviewed over at aquarium drunkard and dropped "downbound train," their contribution to and bonus track on the upcoming tribute album to springsteen's nebraska, long distance salvation.  the cover remains true to the original in most respects, outside of a slight alteration of lyrics, namely the last verse.  read all about it in the john gleason interview, give it a stream above and (right click, save link as) download here.

mp3 | pure bathing culture | lucky one

the song's been out a while, but if you guys haven't noticed, we've had a hard time finding much of anything worth posting lately. and school's nuts. it's been a relatively sedated thursday night and the indie-pop duo out of portland, oregon have provided the ideal accompaniment. formed last year, pure bathing culture released an ep back in march, comprised of three tracks, one of which is the trilled out "lucky one" featured above.  if you like what you hear and happen to be in oregon or plan on going, the band is touring - check them out. stream up there and (right click, save link as) download here.

mp3 | benjamin booker | have you seen my son?

all credit to the folks at rollo & grady (via aquarium drunkard) for this sweet, sweet treat. waiting ones, benjamin booker's debut ep was recorded just before his move to new orleans, during a two-week span, using a junked guitar and his sister's laptop. you can name your own price and download a few tracks on his bandcamp, sample "have you seen my son?" above and (right click, save link as) download it here.

stream // video | ryan hemsworth | last words ep

canada's ryan hemsworth released his new ep last words today via wedidit. it's a perfect soundtrack to usher in the coming autumn months.  somehow managing to outdo his previous, superb efforts, the album can be streamed in it's entirety above and bought here for as little as five bucks. the second track, "colour & movement" features a sample from notwist's "consequence" and it is unreal; don't miss it.

mp3 // video | lord huron | time to run

lord huron's ben schneider via npr's all songs considered:

"a tragic tale of the foolish things a man might find himself doing for a woman, and the consequences that foolishness may bring upon him and those around him. it's a tale as old as time — one which has and will be repeated endlessly. we tried to be as true as possible to george ranger johnson's book.

"the video was helmed by l.a.-based director arms race, from a concept we developed in tandem. it was shot during one intensely hot marathon day in the mojave desert, and an additional scene filmed that night in los angeles. cinematography was handled by garret curtis, and benjamin dohrmann edited. sure hope you enjoy it."

photo // mp3 | fear of men | green sea | beta frontiers rework

our favorite toronto-based producer beta frontiers is at it again. a few days ago, the bootleg of fear of men's "green sea" reared its wonderfully remixed face on the web. it should go without saying, but it's been on repeat since. too, too good. stream above and go support the artist - the mp3 is yours for a dollar (or more, if you like). or check back for a download in a couple days. lastly, don't forget to listen to the original if you missed it.

mp3 | cold showers | bc

mp3 | mac demarco | my kind of woman

new single from mac demarco's forthcoming sophomore effort, appropriately named, 2 via captured tracks (october 16 release date). if sounds of this sort and caliber are what's to be expected from toronto's demarco, we're down. dreamy, jangly and immediately endearing, the track's a must-have for any of the fellow sentimental fools. stream it above and be sure to (right click, save link as) download here.

mp3 | lace curtains | bedroom honesty

"bedroom honesty" surfaced earlier this summer from michael coomer's lace curtains. also a member of austin's garage band, harlem, coomer considered lace curtains little more than a side project, despite a july release of their first album, the garden of joy and the well of loneliness. legitimate band, solo endeavor, side project, whatever it is, the guy makes good music. as always, sample above and (right click, save link as) download here.

if you like what you hear - and you better - be sure to grab "police brutality" while you're at it.  (right click, save link as) download here.  happy monday, friendz.

feature | the heavy collective

crosspost from tumblr account :

a couple weeks back, the heavy collective featured my work on their website.  included in the piece are some of my older photos, a brief interview and another ridiculous picture of myself.  this one, actually:

they've featured some incredibly talented photographers and while my inclusion is questionable in my own mind, i'm flattered to have my work shown alongside theirs. if you have a minute, check it out by clicking the image above.

mp3 | diana | born again

new track from the toronto-based group, diana. our love for anything eighties, (it's an illness) makes us a biased source in some ways, but the track's good and sports some seventies disco influences as well - don't call it chillwave. trounce city streets at night and make up your own mind, jerks. stream above or (right click, save link as) download here.

stream | the xx | chained

"chained" is the second single to hit the internet from the forthcoming coexist full-length, due september 11 (in the states) via young turks. another concise and delicate endeavor, the xx seem to be in top form while the new album looks to rival the artistic success of 2009's self-titled lp. jamie (xx) smith continues to prove his rank at the forefront of indie-pop production is well-deserved with a clean and expertly executed arrangement. stream the track above.

stream | lol boys feat. heart streets | changes

smash single from the recently dropped (july 17 via friends of friendschanges ep by jerome potter and markus garcia, better known by their lol boys moniker. the los angeles via montreal duo offer fresh, jazz influenced subtleties over solid beats and some of the catchiest hooks around. give "changes" featuring heart streets a stream above.

mp3 | shlohmo | changes | lol boys rework

while we're at it, don't miss the shlohmo rework. also featured on the changes ep, it's arguably better than the original, bleeding that classic trilled style he's become so known and praised for. stream the remix above and give it a (left click, follow link, click orange 'download now' in top right - it's safe) download here.

mp3 | fthrsn | nothing's the matter

we mentioned fthrsn's hysteria ep last friday, but "nothing's the matter" demands individual acknowledgment.  every song on the album does, really.  just (follow the link, ignore the ads) download it.  ann arbor's mr. macklin underdown has wasted little time cementing his place in our typically parched, thirsty hearts, but you nerds be the judge; stream his work above or (right click, save link as) download here. happy sunday friends, here's to a week of realized potential, angry naps and heatstroke(s).

mp3 | chrome sparks | marijuana

jeremy malvin has been creating music as chrome sparks since he retired from his studies at the university of michigan a couple years back, affording the artist the chance to focus on his endeavors as a musician. since then, he's released a number of singles and the exceptional my ♥ ep (follow the link and download the album for as little as zero dollars). "marijuana" surfaced a few weeks back via grl mtn, an apparent collective of musicians and friends out of ann arbor, michigan (includes fthrsn). stream the track above and (right click, save link as) download here.

mp3 | ryan hemsworth | thinkin bout you | frank ocean rework

another talented producer out of canada, ryan hemsworth has been on a bit of a tear as of late. his lftf (live for the funk) mix was met with enormous hype (follow link above for download) and though summer days are dwindling, his recently released "slowed summer" mix is the way to be sure the season dies in style. take a chance on a sure thing and (right click, save link as) download here. for more of his bootlegs and equally impressive originals, check out his soundcloud - don't miss the rework of grimes' "genesis."  as a sample, stream the frank ocean "thinkin bout you" remix above and (left click, then hit download now button top right) download here.

second single from the the highly anticipated shields album by grizzly bear. "yet again" seems to affirm the idea that the band can't be pinned to one style -  they've continued to diverge from, and grow with, each release while meticulously managing to stay true to their established sound and feel. the new album - the group's fourth - is due september 17 via warp. catch the stream above and check back for that download.
